Dear Honorable Prime Minister, We, the Bangladeshi expatriates, express grave concern at the attacks on non-Muslim citizens of Bangladesh following your victory at the recent election. Based on reports in different newspapers, we are shocked to see that this trend of displacing and harassing the minorities is spreading fast across the country. Even more disturbing is the news of rape and murder that is also filtering out. This attack on the vulnerable section of the citizenry seriously endangers democracy, threatens the fabric of Bangladeshi society, and indeed lowers the international standing of Bangladesh at the current vulnerable scenario in world politics. We, the undersigned below, Bangladeshis and world citizens alike, respectfully request the relevant authorities in Bangladesh to immediately clamp down on hate crimes. We believe that at this time exemplary punishments meted out to the culprits will demonstrate to all that your administration will not tolerate attacks on religious minorities. Sincerely, Bangladeshi expatriates |
