20-May-02 (Institute for Global Engagement, November 2002) Terror in Bangladesh - Violence among Bangladeshi citizens and emigration from Bangladesh are not new. However, reports of violence targeted at a particular group of religious minorities without sufficient government effort to quell this violence is a serious cause for concern.

20-May-02 (Rationalist International, 28-Nov-2001) Bangladesh Elections; Fall of Awami League: An Election Analysis - A landslide victory of Bangladesh National Party (BNP) & 4-Party alliance led by Begum Khaleda in the general election of Bangladesh held on October 1, 2001not only surprised common men but political Pundits equally.

12-May-02 (Daily Star) Opinion: Democracy needs more responsible conduct - "the most serious threat to democracy is the notion that it has already been achieved." [Anonymous] ... Fortunately or unfortunately, the high standards set in by democratic societies all over, demands a lot from those who crave for it. For instance, the minimum pre-requisites for establishment of a true democratic order are: a sense of tolerance, a free and responsible press; an effective parliament, (not the one that suffers from perpetual quorum crisis and discusses useless, time wasting and unproductive issues and subjects), a truly independent judiciary and a responsible executive; vigilant, enlightened, reasonably educated and a participating citizenry (not mere passers-by), freedom of expression, presence of individual liberty/human rights, periodic self criticism and re-assessment, unhindered and expressed will of people through regular and scrupulous methods, with consensus on major national issues, and the presence of morality. Indeed a tough calling by all means, but then that is what democracy is; that is what democracy demands.

01-May-02 (Milli Gazette) Vajpayee equates Islam with terrorism - A statement by the Indian prime minister equating Islam with terrorism continues to cause an unprecedented uproar in the Indian political life, especially among Muslims and secular circles.
